Japanese Book Binding

Sunday, October 21, 2018 - 10:00 to 13:00

Boothstown Community Centre, Standfield Drive, Boothstown, M28 1LS

Book binding is an ancient craft with roots in South America, India and China.  This workshop will teach you how to make traditional books with plain paper, using a traditional french stitch and finished with a hardcover.  You can then take your book home to use to write a famous novel, become a sketchbook or fill it up with to-do lists!

We will also make some much more simple books using a modified Japanese book bind stitch, recycled paper, twine and birch bark.

Be prepared to focus in, use sharp tools and needles for sewing.  You will leave the session with two beautiful books and the knowledge to continue making your own in the future.

The workshop will be lead by Joe Ford.  Joe is an artist based in Manchester city centre.  Her background is in photography and print making, she has been using bookmaking in her work for many years.  Joe is greatly inspired by nature and the world around her; by the beauty that exists in every surrounding.

Suitable for adults - no experience necessary.

Places are free but limited and must be booked in advance www.est1761.eventbrite.co.uk
