Discover Monton and Patricroft

Saturday, February 15, 2020 - 10:00 to 11:30

Sarting point - Duke's Drive, Monton (off Parrin Lane)

Monton is often described as the new Didsbury or even "Monton Carlo" with a wealth of bars and restaurants and a lively village feel. However, it sits adjacent to the Salford stretch of the Bridgewater Canal, instrumental in the industrial revolution of the UK and beyond. Hear interesting historical facts about Monton and Patricroft, including the quirky buildings and the royal visit where Her Majesty was not amused. We start off at Duke's Drive in Monton - a green oasis where nature thrives - and then we walk along the canal to Patricroft. Here we will learn about James Nasmyth’s Steam Hammer which was built and designed here and the 1830 railway which passes by. Also find out how cakes stopped trains!

This tour is run by accredited Green Badge Guide Alexandra Fairclough. Tickets cost £10 and can be booked via Eventbrite.

Please note this an externally organised event - any enquiries should be directed to Alexandra at the links above.
