Under The Green featuring Muddy Fingers Fête

Sunday, March 19, 2017 - 10:00 to 15:00

The Green, Worsley, M28 2PA

Get hands-on with technology and archaeology as we uncover the hidden heritage buried beneath the tranquil surface of Worsley Green. This pretty, green, open space was once a busy industrial site complete with factories and a train track running over it.  Standing there today you wouldn’t have any idea of this past life.

Come along and be part of a family friendly survey of what was once there using geo-physical mapping with experts from the University of Salford Archaeology Department.

You can use sensing equipment to help peel away the layers of history beneath our feet without having to lift a shovel or get your hands dirty.

Roll up! Roll up! Discover fascinating stories with the Muddy Fingers Archaeologists. Play ‘Lucky Dip’ for historical oddities or take a chance on the Spinning Wheel as curious performers iOrganic take you through the Tombola of Time at the Muddy Fingers Fête.

You can also become an apprentice at our Institute of Ingenious Invention.  Just what were the gadgets that powered the engines and machines that built the Bridgewater Canal?  Master your own mechanical thingamabob and make a moving machine to take home.

Drop in at any time for free heritage fun that will help you go back in time to the busy, noisy, dirty works yard of Worsley.

This event is part of British Science Week 2017.
